Entering Terms
- Searches are not case-sensitive. For example, the terms smile, SMILE, sMiLe, Smile, or smilE all produce the same results.
- To search for variations of a term, use the * as a wildcard. For example, type smil* to search for smile, smiling, smily etc.
- Words are stemmed, i.e., variants of words that indicate plurality or verb tense are equivalent. For example, a query of talked produces results that match talks, talking, and talk as well.
Combining Terms
- When you type terms in more than one field, results contain articles that match all fields. For example, if you type a term in the Author field and in the Title field, only articles that contain both terms appear in the results.
- When you type more than one word in a field, results contain all terms. For example, the search father child produces the same result as typing father and child; it retrieves articles with both terms in the field.
- To search for either term in a field, type OR between them. For example, the search father or child retrieves articles with either term in the field.
- To search for one term and not another in a field, type NOT between them. For example, father NOT child retrieves articles with father, but NOT child.
