Overview
The Catawbas, part of the Indians of North America series, presents a fascinating portrayal of the history and culture of these native people. For hundreds of years the Catawbas have lived in the Carolina Piedmont region of the United States. First encountering Europeans in 1540, the tribe successfully maintained their culture until the 1800s. While most Catawbas have assimilated into modern American society, recent efforts have been made to revive their culture.
