Overview
Native Americans and Christianity, part of the Indians of North America series, traces when the Aztec emperor Motecuhzoma first invited Spanish explorer Hernando Cortes into his city in 1519, and the cultural and religious conflicts that ensued. In the early 1500s, European explorers brought with them deep-rooted convictions of their own cultures, including their faith in the Christian God and the need to spread this faith around the world. The native peoples of America, however, had beliefs of their own. Native Americans and Christianity explores the clash between these cultures and examines the various ways in which Native Americans, facing grave changes in their physical environments, met the challenge to their spiritual worlds as well.
