The Gathering Storm: 1787-1829, part of the Milestones in Black American History series, examines the spread of slavery to the Old Southwest and zeroes in on the daring efforts of African Americans to end slavery and improve life for free blacks. These efforts ranged from revolutions to the establishment of the new nation of Liberia.
