Overview
Here are booktalks on 101 in-print titles that are "culturally authentic." The booktalks are meant to increase test scores, "expand students' horizons," and help students better understand U.S. history. Arrangement is alphabetical by title, and each entry includes short author biographical information and Web site, length of book, genre, interest level, book awards, summary, subject heading(s), suggested read-aloud excerpts with specific page numbers, a starter one-paragraph booktalk, and related titles. Indexing is by subject, title, and author. In a work like this, there will always be some titles that were overlooked, and only one Middle Eastern title is included. Overall, however, there is great representation of cultures, the booktalks and selected passages will grab readers, and the related titles tie together similar themes from different ethnicities.
