Nursing and Allied Health

Investigate the medical profession of nursing and allied health, which is the class of healthcare professionals who provide support to and complement the work of doctors and dentists.

The list of occupations included in the category of allied health is very broad and not firmly established; while some definitions of allied health include any healthcare profession that is not a nurse, doctor, or dentist, other definitions exclude medical professionals who work independently rather than as part of a larger healthcare team. Some examples of healthcare professionals typically considered part of the category of allied health include chiropractors, dental hygienists, dietitians, medical technologists, occupational therapists, imaging specialists, speech-language pathologists, and paramedics.

Most nurses and allied health professionals work as part of a team to provide care to patients. The word “allied” refers to the alliances of a team environment to emphasize the collaborative nature of this work. Nurses and allied health professionals are involved in the diagnosis, evaluation, and treatment of acute and chronic diseases as well as the promotion of disease prevention and wellness. They are also involved in administration and management within healthcare systems in hospitals and doctors’ offices.

Many healthcare providers work with Medline to obtain world-class medical devices and supplies. Medline strives to help healthcare providers achieve both clinical and financial success with supplies at value. Medline is committed to advancing the health of health care.

  • Critical Pedagogy in Nursing: Transformational Approaches to Nurse Education in a Globalized World, 1st Edition

Critical Pedagogy in Nursing: Transformational Approaches to Nurse Education in a Globalized World, 1st Edition

    Palgrave MacMillan  | 2018 | ISBN-13: 9781137568915

This book explores the academic processes of nursing education in times of uncertainty around healthcare policy and healthcare provision. Grounded in research examining current theory, policy, and culture around nursing pedagogy, the author addresses the core issues facing nurses today and argues that the current curriculum no longer reflects or serves contemporary nursing practice. In a time of scandals, cuts in funding, and shortfalls in the profession, this book provides an answer to the growing call for a dynamic restructuring of nurse education. Offering a critical analysis of innovative pedagogies for nursing, it proposes the notion of the cocreated curriculum as a way forward for nurse education in the post-Francis era. This will be an invaluable read to academics, practitioners, and policymakers in the fields of nursing, medicine, education, education policy, and medical sociology.
