米艦隊司令長官戦闘記録集
Commander in Chief, U.S. Fleet, Battle Experiences, December 1941–August 1945
第二次大戦中から戦争終結直後の時期に作成され、士官の間で回覧された機密情報報告（Secret Information Bulletin）を集めたものです。報告書の内容は戦闘日誌、司令官や艦船からの戦闘報告に基づいて作成され、主として海上作戦がカバーされ、空軍、潜水艦の戦闘、陸海空軍共同作戦は対象外とされています。各報告書には詳細な目次に続き、作戦の梗概、戦闘上の諸問題の分析、戦闘から得られた教訓、結論が記載されています。

海軍諜報局作戦部長室戦闘記録集
Intelligence Division, OPNAV, Combat Narratives
海軍作戦部長アーネスト・キング元帥の要請で海軍諜報局出版部によって準備された記録で、公式の海軍戦史が完成するまでの暫定的な戦闘記録として士官の閲覧用に供されました。暫定とはいえ、艦隊司令長官戦闘記録よりも精度は高く、首尾一貫した内容で、図表や写真も含まれています。記録の内容は、戦闘報告書、戦闘日誌、陸軍報告書、戦闘従事者への聞き取りに基づき作成され、序文、戦闘概況、編成、戦闘準備、戦闘、結果という構成を取り、戦闘員と武器の損失表が付されています。大半の記録はアリューシャン作戦、珊瑚海海戦、ジャワ沖海戦、ミッドウェー海戦、ソロモン諸島の戦い等、太平洋上の戦闘に関わるものですが、北アフリカ上陸作戦、シシリア島作戦、サレルノ上陸作戦等、太平洋以外の戦闘記録も収録されています。

海軍大学校戦闘分析シリーズ
Naval War College, Battle Analysis Series
海軍戦闘シリーズは海軍士官の訓練と教育を目的として第二次大戦後に海軍大学校により制作されたものです。公刊時（1953-1958）に利用が可能だった連合軍と日本軍の資料を利用し、また戦闘に従事した部隊の司令官の観点に立って作成されました。戦闘分析は個々の戦闘グループや陸上機部隊の移動を時系列にたどり、戦闘報告書、作戦命令、戦闘日誌、戦闘従事者への聞き取りに基づいて作成されました。戦闘分析シリーズの最大の目的は戦況と司令官の決定を正確に記述することにあったため、司令官の決定に対して何らかの判断を下すことは控えられています。詳細にわたり実際の戦闘の再現を努めたところに戦闘分析シリーズの最大の利点があります。レイテ湾海戦については、当初７巻の予定だったものが、第１巻、第２巻、第３巻、第５巻のみ公刊されることになりました。
